The following YouTube video will show you how to do an amazing series of movements that will loosen up the muscles between your shoulder blades. If you spend a lot of time at the computer or studying books, you likely experience at tightening in this area. Stress can often cause similar sorts of symptoms in your upper back and neck. With friends, I often refer to this as “study-back” since my upper back used to get very tight due to spending hours pursuing my mathematical studies while in university. Now I experience this tightening in my upper back while pursing my livelihood as a software developer. What’s particularly interesting about this video is that it begins by setting a benchmark. By the end of the video and after carrying out the movements, you can see how much you can increase your range of motion in your arms by loosening the muscles between your shoulder blades. It’s really quite remarkable!
QUESTION: Do you suffer from upper-back tightness and did the series of movements shown in the video above help loosen your muscles in that area and increase the range of motion possible for your arms? Please share your thoughts in the comments section of this post.

This was video was great! As the owner of Exhale Yoga Pilates Dance Studio I spend far too much time in front of the computer!
Hi, Rachel!
It’s unfortunate that studio owners often find them selvesspending too much time at a desk working than they do on a yoga mat! Glad that you found the video useful.
Wishing you success, health, and happiness!

Ohhhh< that was great! I have ongoing shoulder and neck pain. I have been to a physical therapist and am now seeing a chiropractor, but I have been getting minimal relief. The first day I did your exercise I instantly felt a difference and was truly amazed. I will continue to do the exercise and I am now considering taking a yoga class. Thank you so much.
I like yoga because it helps my body to be healthy. Thanks for this blog.Keep blogging please.
Thanks for creating this video. Due to my job, I spend 8 to 10 hours a day at the computer. I\’ve had ongoing neck and shoulder problems as well as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The stretch worked wonderfully. I experience immediate relief after trying it once.
Thanks again!
Hi, Sheila,
I’m so happy that the exercise helped. I find that daily yoga practice really helps with conditions similar to what you describe – especially higher intensity styles like power yoga. Yoga and other lifestyle changes like a raw food diet really make a significant difference for many people. Regarding carpal tunnel syndrome, you might want to check out a post on my personal website about how to eliminate carpal tunnel syndrome.
Be well.
Yours truly,
Marcus
Great! I am suffering from a very very tight upper back. Do you have more exercises to help this area? Please!
I literally went WHOA at the end of this video because of what my arms could do after. I love this! Will use this more often!
Hi, Everyone!

You are a god among men.
This is awesome! I am a video editor and spend many hours at the computer. In addition, I am a dancer, and I am struggling with the ongoing tightness in my shoulders. This simple exercise was remarkable. I immediately saw and felt a difference. Thank you! I will be doing this simple exercise several times during the day to keep my shoulders loose and supple.
Awesome!
There was an intense pain in the center of my upper back (over the spine) and this reduced it to a minor annoyance! I’m sure a couple more times tonight and I’ll be good as new. This is definitely going to become a part of my desk stretches.
Thanks a ton man!
